Apple’s annual iPhone event is expected to take place as early as September 10, 2024. We’re likely to see the iPhone 16, new AirPods, some fresh Apple Watch models, and possibly more. But with new products on the horizon, it’s time to say goodbye to some older ones. Here’s a look at products you might not be able to purchase from the Apple Store after next month.

The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max might be the last of their kind

Since the iPhone XS and XR in 2018, Apple has discontinued the previous flagship a year after. This trend means we might lose Apple’s first titanium iPhone next month.

This might be the last Pro iPhone with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens, as the iPhone 16 Pro is expected to be larger.

The iPhone 14 Plus might end up being a short-lived model

The iPhone 14 Plus is Apple’s first entry-level large-screen iPhone, launched after the iPhone 12 mini and 13 mini didn’t succeed. It features the same 6.7-inch display and long-lasting battery as the Pro Max models but comes in a more affordable package. The 14 Plus also revives the “Plus” branding for the first time since the iPhone 8 Plus in 2017.

In September 2023, Apple discontinued the iPhone 13 mini while continuing to sell the iPhone 13. We might see a similar strategy again, with the iPhone 14 Plus being phased out while the iPhone 14 remains available for a while longer.

The iPhone 13 might become a rare find

The iPhone 13, launched in 2021, began at $799 with upgrades. It now starts at $599 after multiple price cuts. Despite being nearly 3 years old, it remains the oldest iPhone still available on Apple’s website.

If history repeats itself, Apple will phase out the iPhone 13 and replace it with the iPhone 14, priced at $599—at least until the iPhone SE 4 arrives.

Apple might update the entire Apple Watch lineup

We might see updates to all three Apple Watch models next month. The Series 10 is expected to feature a larger and more efficient display, a slimmer body, and possibly a new chipset. The Ultra 3 is also set for a minor update this year, while the SE 3 might switch to a plastic body to offer a more affordable price.

If Apple updates all its Apple Watch models, the company will likely stop selling the current Series 9, Ultra 2, and SE 2 models.

Apple might phase out the AirPods 2 and 3

Apple has sold the AirPods 2 since 2019 as an affordable entry-level model with all the essential features. Although Apple introduced the AirPods 3 in 2021 with spatial audio, better sound quality, and other enhancements, the company continued to offer the AirPods 2. However, this situation might change soon.

Next month, we expect to see two new AirPods 4 models: a basic model to replace the AirPods 2 and a mid-range model to replace the AirPods 3. The mid-range model is likely to include noise cancellation, a feature not available on the current AirPods 2. With the introduction of these new models, Apple might phase out both the AirPods 2 and AirPods 3.

The iPad mini 6 and iPad 10 might receive updates

Next month, we should see updates to Apple’s two least expensive iPads: the iPad mini 6 and the iPad 10. Despite Apple lowering the price of the iPad 10 earlier this year, rumors suggest we’ll still see updates this year. Apple might drop the price of the iPad 10 to below $349 after launching the iPad 11, though I remain skeptical about this.

As for the iPad mini, Apple hasn’t kept older models in recent years, so we can expect it to be discontinued early next month. The new model is likely to support Apple Intelligence, offer more storage, and possibly be compatible with the Apple Pencil Pro.
