Next year, Apple will launch the exciting iPhone SE 4 in the spring and the ultra-slim iPhone 17 Air in the fall. But what about the flagship Pro models? Here are seven new features coming to the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max in 2025.

24MP Front-Facing Camera

Apple focuses mainly on rear camera upgrades each year, but the front camera will get a significant upgrade. The iPhone 17 will feature a 24MP front camera, offering a major quality improvement. The camera module, made of aluminum, will have a “larger rectangular bump” compared to the current design. It’s about time the selfie camera matches the quality of the rear camera.

48MP Telephoto Lens

Apple continues to focus on optimizing the cameras for the Pro series. Rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Pro will feature a 48MP telephoto lens, a huge upgrade from the 12MP lens in the iPhone 16 Pro. This will also result in a “larger rectangular camera bump.”

A19 Pro Chip for iPhone 17 Pro

In 2025, Apple will equip the iPhone with the all-new A19 Pro chip, built using TSMC’s third-generation 3nm process. This top-of-the-line chip will be exclusive to the 17 Pro and Pro Max models, while the standard iPhone 17 will use the A19 chip. The A19 Pro is expected to offer slight performance and power efficiency improvements.

12GB of RAM

The rise of AI has made RAM more important in Apple devices. iPhone 15 users know the limitations of RAM, which caused compatibility issues. In 2025, the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will get 12GB of RAM, 50% more than the 8GB in the iPhone 16 Pro. This upgrade will improve multitasking and Apple Intelligence performance. The iPhone 17 and 17 Air will stick with 8GB of RAM.

Apple’s In-House Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Chip

Apple has been developing its own 5G and Wi-Fi modems for years. The new Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chip will debut in the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. Other devices in the lineup may also feature it. However, only the 17 Air will have Apple’s in-house 5G modem. The Pro models will continue to use Qualcomm’s modem for now.

Redesigned Aluminum Frame

Apple is redesigning the iPhone 17 Pro’s frame, replacing titanium with aluminum. This switch is intriguing since Apple introduced titanium in the 2023 iPhone Pro models. The back cover may feature a “partial aluminum, partial glass” design.

Smaller Dynamic Island

The iPhone 17 Pro Max will have a smaller Dynamic Island, offering more display space. This could coincide with Face ID being embedded into the display. The high-end model is expected to feature a “narrower Dynamic Island.”
